SUMMARY:May Play Reading Series
DESCRIPTION:Hendersonville Theatre (HT) resumes its Staged Reading Series Saturday\, May 14 at 4 p.m. Showcasing the work of area playwrights and performed by local actors\, The Staged Reading Series is a FREE public reading of a new play in development. However\, donations are welcome to support HT.\n\nHT's The Staged Reading Series offers exciting script-in-hand readings of new plays by emerging local playwrights. Readings are followed by a talk back with the playwright and actors to provide feedback to the playwright.\n\nA short discussion will follow each show to provide feedback to the playwright about their script.\n\nThe reading will be held on the Hendersonville mainstage at 229 S. Washington Street\, Hendersonville\, NC. There is no charge to attend or to participate\, however donations are welcome and will be used to support HT.\n\nHendersonville Theatre is committed to exploring and developing new work for American theater\, supporting local playwrights with their creative process from concept to production.\n\nThe plays to be read on April 9 are An Alarming Situation by Darlene Cah and Trillium by Karen Ruetzl. \n\nIn An Alarming Situation\, it's 3:30 in the morning\, and Laura has insomnia and wakes Danny. Then they hear a noise outside. In Trillium\, Granny teaches Maeve "mountain magic" but warns her not to interfere with love. Set in the mountains of Appalachia\, Trillium is a tale of magic\, love\, jealousy\, and revenge.\n\nDarlene Cah was an improv actor at Gotham City Improv in New York\, where she also wrote and performed sketch comedy. Primarily a fiction writer\, Cah's work has appeared in various literary journals over the years. She is now getting back to writing for the stage. She was last seen on the Hendersonville stage in October as the Witch in Haunted Chilling Tales.\n\nOver twenty years ago\, playwright Karen Ruetz auditioned for her first theatrical production\, and she has been addicted to theatre ever since. Primarily a full-length playwright\, her comedies have been described as "a little bit naughty and a whole lotta funny"\, while her dramas focus on issues of relationships and self-discovery. Most of her plays have significant roles for women. Ruetz is from Georgia and will be in Hendersonville for the reading.\n\nPlaywrights who would like to submit work for consideration for the Staged Reading Series can follow the submission guidelines posted at www.HVLtheatre.org and email questions to playsubmissions@HVLtheatre.org.\n\nSince 1966\, Hendersonville Theatre has provided an inviting and nurturing environment for live theatre\, as well as high-quality\, affordable entertainment for the residents of Hendersonville and surrounding areas.\n\nHendersonville Theatre is located at 229 South Washington Street. For tickets or more information contact us at 828-692-1082 or online at HVLTheatre.org.
