Ribbon Cutting & Mural Unveiling: Hendersonville Rescue Missions
Join us as we celebrate Hendersonville Rescue Mission's new mural in partnership with STEAP.
On the outside wall at 628 7th Avenue East in Hendersonville at the Hendersonville Rescue Mission’s Community Outreach Center you will happily find their new mural that was funded by The Community Foundation of Henderson County as one of their special grants in collaboration with STEAP. STEAP’s mission is to identify and encourage diverse, overlooked artists in the area to tell our community’s stories.
Artist Billy Smith uses diverse life models for the kids and has captured the landmarks of our town and 7th Avenue beautifully.
Karen-Eve Bayne, STEAP Chair, says “Our organization appreciates the Rescue mission and the Community Foundation making this wonderful mural possible by providing the building and the funding. It has been one of the dreams of our board to help create public art that more fully represents the richness and diversity of our community. Billy has been a wonderful Artist for this job and perfectly captures the spirit and joy of the children and the landmarks on 7th Avenue. We appreciate Reverend McMinn and Reverend Jones enthusiastically supporting this project.”
Billy Smith adds “The name of this mural is Our Youthful Journey Up Seventh Avenue which came to me while I was painting the happy images of these beautiful children. It strikes me that children enjoy playing together and see little differences in one another during their youthful journey. The Seventh Avenue District continues to be an important landmark for all children of all ethnicities to grow up and learn acceptance together.”
According to President/CEO Rev. Anthony McMinn, “The Hendersonville Rescue Mission’s Board of Directors and staff are incredibly grateful for the positive impact this mural will have on our local community and for the eternal impact on the lives of our neighbors in crisis.”
The public is encouraged to attend on Thursday, July 11th at 11:30 a.m. for light refreshments and to say hello to the artist, Billy Smith.
