Ribbon Cutting & Mural Unveiling: Interfaith Assistance Ministry
Join us as we celebrate Interfaith Assistance Ministry new mural that is designed to help welcome local residents of all ethnicities – especially our Latino neighbors – who seek basic needs services from IAM. Artist Rosalia Torres-Weiner will lead children who attend with a parent or guardian in a small free art project. This special celebration starts at 3 p.m. and will conclude at 4:30 p.m. in IAM’s parking lot: 310 Freeman St., Hendersonville, NC. Beverages and light snacks will be provided. Opportunities for ‘selfies’ with the mural will add to the celebration.
STEAP’s mission statement is: “Connecting Communities with our Stories through storytelling education and art programs.” IAM’s mission is “To assist members of community experiencing crisis with basic needs, in an atmosphere of compassion and respect.”
STEAP Executive Director Karen-Eve Bayne thanks the Arts Council of Henderson County and The Community Foundation for supporting us in bringing Rosalia Torres-Weiner here to create such a fine mural. This mural joins two others that celebrate the richness of diversity: 628 7th Ave and 101 E King Street. Our mission is Connecting Communities with Our Stories. We do this by creating arts projects that tell our stories, using diverse artists, performers, and people. “We are delighted to join IAM in unveiling this mural," Bayne said.
IAM Executive Director Elizabeth Willson Moss and the Board of Directors thank STEAP, the Arts Council and the Community Foundation for making IAM’s strategic goal of adding happy, inviting colors to our gray exterior walls to make all feel welcome a reality. “Our neighbors and their children are loving this one-of-kind mural and the happy vibe it brings to our modern crisis services facility, built by the generosity of our community. We are grateful to Rosalia and her husband Ben Weiner, STEAP, the Arts Council and CFHC for this wonderful collaborative effort!”
