IAM (Interfaith Assistance Ministry) is seeking a strategic, compassionate, and operations-savvy leader to serve as our next Chief Operating Officer (COO). The COO will oversee day-to-day operations of IAM’s services and programs—ensuring we continue to serve our neighbors in need with compassion, dignity, and efficiency.
About IAM
IAM provides crisis services including food, clothing, financial assistance with rent, utilities and prescriptions, transportation, personal hygiene items, household budgeting assistance and referrals to Henderson County residents. The COO will play a vital leadership role in helping IAM fulfill its mission through excellence in operations and collaborative team management.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead operational departments including the Food Pantry, Food Procurement, Healthy Opportunities Pilot (HOP), Facilities, Intake and IT.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures to ensure safety, compliance, and service excellence.
  • Monitor departmental budgets and staffing needs in collaboration with the Leadership Team.
  • Provide consistent coaching and support to department managers to foster strong leadership and management skills.
  • Support morale and staff engagement, working closely with the HR Director to address operational or personnel issues.
  • Track and report progress on strategic initiatives and service metrics.
  • Ensure IAM's values of compassion, equity, and community resilience are embedded in day-to-day operations.
  • Update Standard Operating Procedures as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or equivalent experience a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an operations leadership role; food distribution management, warehouse management, related nonprofit or human services experience highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in organizational management, budget oversight, team building, and policy implementation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; comfort with databases and operational software like Excel and Tracker.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Work Environment
This role is based on IAM’s campus and requires flexibility to work both indoors and outdoors. The position includes some physical activity (lifting up to 40 pounds, walking, standing, bending).
