What will you need?

Required: Baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Services or a related field.  Degree(s) must be from an accredited college recognized by the NC Department of Child Development and Early Education.  Hold an Initial or Continuing Professional B-K License or NC Professional Educator’s License with a Provisional B-K or Preschool Add-on License issues from the Department of Public Instruction.

Preferred: Degree, and/or training or concentration in Early Childhood Special Education.  Two years of teaching experience with children 3 to 5 years old with diagnosed or suspected disabilities.

Teacher responsibilities include:

Engaging in classroom activities and teaching in a manner consistent with the philosophy and goals of the WNCSource Head Start program building and maintaining a positive, nurturing, and supportive relationship with the children and families.

Within an inclusive classroom, plan and implement learning experiences for children aged 3 to 5 years old that support the individual needs of children with disabilities, addressing skill areas of self-help, physical growth, language and speech, and cognitive and psychosocial skills.  Ensure that the children with disabilities and those who do not, have equal access in a supportive environment built on positive and nurturing relationships with children, families, and staff.

Conduct ongoing assessment of the growth and development of all children to form instruction and measure progress toward IEP Goals and School Readiness Goals. Develop an individualized curriculum to meet the specific needs of all children in the class.

Communicate with parents/guardians and encourage their input regarding the growth and development of their children. Conduct two home visits and two parent-teacher conferences per child per year. Support successful transitions for enrolled children and families.  Attend IEP meetings as a member of the child’s education team. 

Complete timely, neat and accurate documentation on all required areas.

Maintaining  a safe and healthy environment in the classroom and on the playground.

 

Help maintain a safe environment by recognizing and responding to safety hazards in the workplace including reporting unsafe workplace conditions appropriately and in a timely manner. Maintain assigned adult/child ratios at all times.  Follow all federal, state and organizational health and safety procedures.

 

The Developmental Day Teaching Position is a Full time 12 month non exempt position.
