What will you need?

Minimum:  High School Diploma or GED, and enrolled in EDU 119. Plan to work towards Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education,  Infant Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA), or Infant Toddler Care Certificate

Preferred: Baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Services or a related field or Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education

Teacher responsibilities include:

• Engaging in classroom activities and teaching in a manner consistent with the philosophy and goals of the WNCSource Head Start program building and maintaining a positive, nurturing, and supportive relationship with the children and families.

• Planning and implementing learning experiences as part of the Head Start curriculum that address physical health and development, social and emotional development, approaches to learning, language development and communication, and cognitive development. 

• Creating ongoing assessments of the growth and development of assigned children to form instruction and measure progress toward School Readiness Goals.

• Partnering with families to develop positive, open, relationship-based two-way communication using home visits, parent/teacher conferences and other communication tools.

• Establishing procedures to support successful transitions for enrolled children and families into and out of Early Head Start.

• Maintaining  a safe and healthy environment in the classroom and on the playground.
